DIRECTV is an app for watching live TV and shows and movies on demand. It is an addition to the DIRECTV service provided by the same company.
Design, Navigation, and Usability: Averagely Comfortable
The app's design is pleasing to the eye: the developers have mostly used dark colors for backgrounds, making it easy and comfortable to look at the screen while browsing through the menus. The navigation and usability, however, are pretty imperfect. The app has lots of features, and they are not structured well in the menus: you will most probably get lost in the app while looking for a specific feature. In general, the interface is usually overloaded: almost all the time, you will see several small sections responsible for different features, which is not convenient and not so user-friendly.
Features: Pretty Powerful
Despite the drawbacks with the interface, the DIRECTV app has a decent amount of features. With this app, you can live stream popular TV channels straight from your phone, record them, or even watch specific shows on demand. There are more than 150 channels available, including HBO, CNN, NBC, and many more. There is also a feature that allows you to send the content from your phone to your TV in one tap and vice versa. You can even use the app to turn your phone into a remote control for your TV set. The app also offers to rewind the content from live TV for 72 hours in case you missed your favorite show. However, if you are looking for streaming only, DIRECTV Now is the choice for you because the DIRECTV app is designed specifically for users of DIRECTV television services.
Security: AT&T Security Technologies
When it comes to security, DIRECTV seems to be pretty safe as it is a subsidiary of AT&T, and it complies with AT&T's security standards. There have been several big security vulnerabilities discovered in the DIRECTV service, but the company was pretty quick to fix them. This particular app is designed specifically for DIRECTV customers, who have already provided the company with all their information, so there is almost no additional risk in installing the mobile app.
